Julie Durie

Early Years Practitioner

Julie graduated from the University of Kent with a BA (Hons) degree in History (2:1) in 1993 before moving to London where she worked for 7 years. She moved back to Scotland in 2000 for family reasons and worked at Standard Life in Edinburgh for 12 years. After taking some time away from work to look after her own young children, and getting involved with a local playgroup as a parent volunteer, Julie decided on a change of career. She completed the HNC in Childhood Practice in 2018 while working as a Playleader at Stoneyhill Playgroup in Musselburgh supporting children aged 2 to 4.5 years in play, and also volunteering at a local primary school.

Before joining Loretto Pre-School in 2019, Julie worked as a Pupil Support Assistant at two primary schools in Edinburgh supporting children, mainly from the lower primary and nursery classes to access play, socialisation and learning opportunities. Julie is passionate about providing children with quality play and learning experiences, outdoors as much as possible, whether supporting child-led, free play or more structured activities.
